Our Philosophy

SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE • ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION • PRIVATE SECLUSION • ARTISANAL MINIMALISM • ECO-CONSCIOUS DESIGN •

Sustainable building techniques including Shou Sugi ban to Char and protect natural hewn lumber from decay without the use of chemicals

We believe in the profound harmony between human presence and the natural world. Our philosophy, and our commitment to environmental conservation is woven into the very fabric of our chalet, ensuring that every detail—from the sustainable materials we use to the preservation of the surrounding forest—respects the mountain's delicate ecosystem. At Joia Verde, we prioritize guest privacy and tranquility, offering a retreat where the quiet whispers of the forest are the only sound.  Currently we are building a large composting bin for all fall foliage and vegetable food scraps, other ongoing projects include building a natural swim pond over time, a wood burning spring fed hot tub, and the design of the pondside deck and cabin using the Shou Sugi Ban principles to avoid the use of pressure or heat treated lumber.

Conservation

Experience the thrill of the slopes at home right off your backyard, sledding, or cross country hiking this winter, or if you need a little more adventure take a 9 minute drive down to the Berkshire East Ski resort where the powder is fresh and the lines don't exist.

Deerfield River tubing offers a relaxing and enjoyable outdoor experience. Located in Massachusetts, the Deerfield River is known for its scenic beauty and controlled flow, making it ideal for tubing. Here are some key points about tubing on the Deerfield River:

Experience and Services

  • Outfitters: Various companies, such as The Great Outdoors and Deerfield River Portage, provide tubing services, including equipment rental and transportation to the river.

  • Trip Length: Typical tubing trips cover around 3.5 miles, allowing for a leisurely float.

We prioritize environmental conservation and guest privacy, ensuring your retreat is as sustainable as it is exclusive. We limit use of heavy machinery and attempt to use wood from the land to build as much as possible.

We as you to shop locally and support local businesses, pack in and pack out when camping, use the natural resources of fallen trees and sticks first as a source of campfires and always burn within a safety perimeter with water nearby.

Recycle, conserve energy and conserve heat as we have limited energy flowing to both houses.
